The Art of Watercolour Magazine 47th issue PRINT Edition

This new issue of The Art of Watercolour presents a worldwide selection of artists with uniquely different styles. Alfred T. Galura’s delicate still lifes are matched by Janice Cipriani-Willis’ chiselled portraits, whereas John Cooney’s hyper-realistic landscapes are contrasted with Megha Kapoor’s flamboyant floral bouquets. Ric Dentinger’s vivid colours are offset by the nuanced hues of the great Dean Mitchell. Each artist has his/her own style and it is up to you to find your own, as after all nothing beats expressing your feelings. Happy reading!

The Art magazine for Watercolourists

CONTENTS:
Portfolio: Wendy Artin
Combining elegance and finesse, suggestive without being too descriptive, her still lifes constitute plays on forms where the whole takes precedence over the detail.

MEET THE ARTISTS:
Dean Mitchell: This renowned artist has won numerous awards and had the honours of numerous personal exhibitions. For him, sobriety and conciseness are the keystones of a successful painting.
Megha Kapoor: For the Indian artist, expressiveness is synonymous with freedom. Her work as a floral painter consists in transferring her unique vision of the subject onto paper.
Janice Cipriani-Willis: Her lively and colourful portraits seek to go beyond what she calls “just a portrait” and capture the intimacy of her models.
Alfred T. Galura: The Filipino artist paints highly personal still lifes that are the result of his practice and experience and which demonstrate his wide range of know-how.
Ric Dentinger: This American artist likes to take objects scarred by time and bring out their hidden beauty by relying on values.
Tribute to Jean-Louis Morelle: A great artist and a key figure in French watercolour, he passed away last June at the age of 76. Here is a vibrant tribute to him, both to the man and to his work.
John Cooney: Fascinated by the beauty of landscapes and the spectacle of nature, the Irish artist talks about his approach to watercolour.
Maureen Fain: For her, the painting is born out of the interaction between the model and the artist’s vision. She captures both the transience of the moment and the permanence of bodies.

Revelation: Isabelle Estrade.
Revelations: Yuji Uchiyama and Renée Dion.

Special New Readers’ Competition: The results of our “Emotion” themed contest.
Competition winners: Will Elliston, Egle Lipeikaite, Lester Miller.
What’s on: Watercolour events from all over the world.

History: Hans Heysen
The German-born Australian artist (1877-1968) is one of Australia’s best known landscape painters, thanks to his watercolours of monumental Australian gum trees.

EDITORIAL
Nothing beats expressing your feelings
Watercolour is made up of seasons that happen over and over again, but which are never quite the same. As summer with its many events and exhibitions comes to an end, it is clear that after two challenging years visitors are back in force and willing to travel from afar to discover everything that has been on offer. The arrival of autumn marks a return to the studio and so, with this in mind, this issue presents a selection of artists with uniquely different styles. Wendy Artin’s delicate still lifes are matched by Janice Cipriani-Willis’ chiselled portraits, whereas John Cooney’s hyper-realistic landscapes are contrasted with Megha Kapoor’s flamboyant floral bouquets. Ric Dentinger’s vivid colours are offset by the nuanced hues of the great Dean Mitchell, to whom we devote a long interview. Each artist has his/her own style and it is up to you to find your own, after all nothing beats expressing your feelings.
Moreover, this issue is a rather special one in that we pay tribute to a great figure of French watercolour, Jean-Louis Morelle, who passed away last June. Morelle left an indelible mark on French watercolour thanks to his magnificent works, as well as being an accomplished teacher, who trained a whole generation of artists
Wishing you a wonderful autumn and happy painting!
