EDITORIAL
First of all, how can I not pay tribute to the woman who has been its initiator since the beginning 9 years ago: Janine Gallizia. Do not think for a moment that she has asked at any time for this tribute to be paid to her. That would be knowing her badly; and I would like to take as proof the previous 35 magazines. She could have put herself forward many times as an artist, but not at all. Apart from twice in 9 years, and not at her own initiative, she has always wanted to appear in the pages not to put herself forward, but to share her know-how, which everyone recognizes as unique. But there is more. Initiator of two books with Diverti Publishing, including “The Complete Book of Watercolour”, a real success both in terms of sales and the quality of the book, Janine was also the organizer and master of ceremony of the “World Watercolour Competition”, one of the largest exhibitions dedicated to watercolour in Europe, which attracted no less than 50,000 visitors and endowed the winners with more than €20,000 in awards. Having constantly brought French and foreign artists to the forefront of the scene with the sole aim of promoting an art that ten years ago had nothing in common with what we see in fairs today, Janine is a source of inspiration for many art fair organizers, a source of renewal for many artists, a source of information and help for everyone. Thank you for your support and collaboration. How can we not also pay tribute to the hundreds of artists who have trusted us by appearing in the pages of our magazines. Without them nothing would have been possible. Thank you for opening the doors of their studios, their hearts, to us when their daily lives are often filled with travels, exhibition preparations and workshops, sometimes on several continents. Thank you all for the quality of your work, your availability, your attentiveness and your confidence in us.
How can we not pay tribute to the readers who are always following us from issue to issue and without whom nothing would be possible... To buy this magazine and even more to subscribe is above all to highlight artists, events and volunteers who, in most cases, would not appear in any other reference publication. So, subscribing to the magazine is also an investment for you. Thank you for your loyalty. On the menu of this special issue, a portfolio of artists who pay tribute to Notre Dame, 100 tips gleaned and gathered over the past few years to better enjoy it, a large demo by Mark Mehaffey allowing you to graps to the heart of creation, encounters with John Salminen, Marcos Beccari, Julia Barminova, David Poxon, Sung-Kai Ting, rising star of watercolour in Asia, Anirban Jana, but also a 20-page technical notebook dedicated creating paintings that work!
Enjoy your reading, everyone.
Jean-Philippe Moine, Editor-in-Chief.
